10 Great Apps for Christian Women

“There’s an App for that”. Ah yes, the great Apple adage that has spawned numerous parodies, and opened up a market for many other types of technologies.

Apps.

Many people these days have a smart-phone or a mobile device that allows apps. But what, exactly, is an app? An “app” is an abbreviation for application and is, therefore, an application for your mobile device (similar to how Microsoft Word is for most personal computers). In many cases, the app is a smaller or more concise version of the larger computer or web applicatio
Personally, I love trying out and finding new apps that will make me more productive, organized, and efficient. In fact, the great majority of the apps on my mobile devices are apps that fit into one of those categories. Below I would like to share ten apps that I have found that easily fit into one of those categories (productivity, organization, and efficiency). It was tough narrowing these down out of billions, but these are definitely a step above the rest.

Bible by LifeChurch.tv – Free, Android & iOS

  • What is it? A Bible.
  • Why you will love it? Great online community, Bible study plans, and social integration.
  • Who will really love it? Anyone who wants to have their Bible with them on the go.
  • Why I like it?
    • The Bible study plans can from the community, so there are many options. I love the reminder to read, and that the app tries to keep you on some sort of track.

Kindle – Free, Android & iOS

  • What is it? Your personal library.
  • Why you will love it? Hundreds of free books. Discounts off of best sellers.
  • Who will really love it? Bookworms.
  • Why I like it?
    • I love the classics. If they aren’t free, they are less than $5.00. I also love the night settings (better than the actual Kindle)

Period Tracker – Free lite version, AndroidiOS

  • What is it? A calendaring system for menses cycles.
  • Why you will love it? Alerts you when your cycle may start, online community, and easy to use.
  • Who will really love it? The organized woman. Anyone TTC.
  • Why I like it?
    • Easy to use, but difficult to remember to set up. Monthly reminders.

TED Talks – Free, Android & iOS

  • What is it? Videos of great and short educational and inspirational speeches.
  • Why you will love it? Short videos that take no time to watch.
  • Who will really love it? Life-long learners.
  • Why I like it?
    • Something I can watch every morning, and extremely educational.

Amazon – Free, Android & iOS

  • What is it? An app that allows you to compare products with their online Amazon equivalent, and read reviews.
  • Why you will love it? Allows you to compare the price of an item in store against the price of it used on Amazon.
  • Who will really love it? Frugalistas.
  • Why I like it?
    • I love reviews, and Amazon has a ton of them.

WebMD – Free, Android & iOS

  • What is it? Symptom Checker, Drugs & Treatments, First Aid Information and Local Health Listings.
  • Why you will love it? Beautifully designed and extremely easy to use.
  • Who will really love it? Hypochondriacs (really).
  • Why I like it?
    • I’m a hypochondriac. ^_^

Toodledo – Some free (third party), Android & iOS

  • What is it? Task management.
  • Why you will love it? Can be updated on your phone, through many browser extensions, and on the website.
  • Who will really love it? List makers.
  • Why I like it?
    • Ubiquitous amongst electronic devices. Displays notifications of undone  and urgent to do items.

ZITE – Free, iOS

  • What is it? A news aggregator.
  • Why you will love it? Great information about topics that interest you.
  • Who will really love it? Information consumers.
  • Why I like it?
    • Always something new and interesting to read.

InstaGram – Free, iOS

  • What is it? A photo transformer.
  • Why you will love it? Many filters to choose from, great online community.
  • Who will really love it? Mommies and amateur photographers.
  • Why I like it?
    • Fun with filters!

Apps are, of course, extremely subjective. They depend upon your interests, and the time you have to invest in them. Have you used any of the above apps? Which is your favorite? What apps do you most frequently use?
